NAFA vs WHOOP

WHOOP is a sensor: a strap that measures recovery, sleep, and strain continuously. NAFA is software that reads those signals alongside your training log and food intake. The two are not alternatives — NAFA connects to WHOOP and uses its recovery data as an input.

WHOOP measures continuously and does it well. Nothing that depends on you remembering to log will ever match a sensor for sleep and heart-rate data.

This comparison is the one most likely to be framed wrongly. WHOOP and NAFA are not competing for the same slot. WHOOP produces measurements. NAFA decides what to do given measurements, food, and training together. If you own a strap, the honest recommendation is to connect it.

What a recovery score cannot do is know what you ate, what you lifted, or what you are trying to change. A low score tells you today was harder on your body than usual. It does not know whether that is because you trained heavy, slept badly, ate 900 calories under, or all three — and those have different answers.

NAFA reads WHOOP recovery, sleep, and strain and puts them next to the session you logged and the food you tracked. The recommendation names which of those is doing the work. If recovery is the binding constraint, it says so and shows the trend. If the protein gap matters more, it says that instead.

NAFA also works with no wearable at all, reading Apple Health or manual logs. The recommendations sharpen as more data arrives, but a strap is not a prerequisite.

What each one covers

 WHOOPNAFA
Continuous sensingYes, via the strapNo — reads sensors rather than replacing them
Recovery and sleepYes, its coreYes, from WHOOP or Apple Health
Training logStrain, inferredSets, reps and load, as logged
Food and macrosNoYes
Hardware requiredYesNo

Which to pick

WHOOP. Keep WHOOP if continuous physiological measurement is what you are after. It is a sensor, and software cannot substitute for one.

NAFA. Add NAFA if you have the recovery number and still have to decide what today should look like. Connect the strap and let both do their own job.

NAFA is public now.

We started with applications and invite codes. That phase is over. Download NAFA from the App Store or create an account on the web, and you’re in. It works with or without a wearable, and you see pricing before you pay for anything.
